Magpie & Stump - What
they say...
TaxiMike - Best Mexican - Authentic Tex-Mex cuisine. Serving food till 2 am. wGuides.com - A caribou head mounted on the wall above a 40-year-old Japanese rice wine bottle greets patrons at the "Stump." Part frontier saloon, part Tex-Mex restaurant, and mostly a resting place for old matchbooks, bottles, Mexican party regalia and animal heads, this place has no shortage of character. Dark, antique wood walls, a weather-beaten exterior and very little light save the dozens of candles on every surface adds to the originality. The menu is Mexican to the core, with tacos, nachos, fried ice cream and a variety of tequilas. 10best.com - Sheathed in rough-hewn wood inside and out, this place is dim and kitschy, as evidenced by the neon beer signs, gaudy sombreros, and mounted animal heads. Still, it's a local favorite and offers any Mexican dish imaginable, from burritos to quesadillas and fajitas. During the day, it has a high turnover, so it's not hard to get a table. In the evenings, patrons come to hang out at the bar, drink, and socialize, so things don't move quite as fast. On occasion, live music fills the space, and it's usually rockabilly or blues. Day and night, the Stump is lively and fun. Plus, they serve food until they close, so if you get the munchies late at night, this is the place to go. The Banff Travel Guide - If you like margaritas the "Magpie" is the place to go, with about 20 different flavors it's often hard to decide. Occasionally the Magpie has bands come in, when they do they a definetly worth checking out. Canadianrockies.net - A rustic step into an old-style Mexican cantina, featuring traditional Mexican and Rocky Mountain grub in a casual, friendly atmosphere. Families welcome.
