Nourish - A Vegetarian Bistro & Tea House - What they say... TaxiMike - Quaint Vegetarian Bistro hidden upstairs in Sundance Mall. Featuring homecooked vegetarian cusine in a quiet, cozy atmosphere! Listed in the Best New Restaurant, Best Lunch, Best Vegetarian and Best Hidden Restaurant Categories! http://www.tripadvisor.com - 'Nourish' (ignore the naff name which does the place a disservice) is on the second floor of the Sundance Mall in Banff, and is unobtrusive; little more from the outside than a small and unpretentious cafe. Forget all that, because once inside it serves the best vegetarian food that I have ever tasted; and I write as someone who has been vegetarian for over forty years, since those days when all you could get in a restaurant was a cheese omelette and a puny salad. I was in Banff for a week and ate at 'Nourish' three times. We tried something different on every visit and there were no duds at all: soups, falafels, polenta, nachos...they were all delicious. Service was as you would expect in this kind of restaurant: informal, friendly, helpful, informative. I went back to Canada a couple of weeks later and was impressed enough to want to take my wife there from southern B.C. (three hours each way) - but severe weather scuppered that plan. But I was serious, because I thought that the place really was that good. http://www.tripadvisor.com - We ordered the nachos and the stuffed roasted red peppers at the restaurant. The nachos were simply delicious. With over 29 toppings, every bite tasted different. Then came in the stuffed peppers. They were delicious. I even offered Mark a business opportunity in Texas. In our opinion, a visit to Banff is incomplete without a meal at the Nourish Restaurant. The prices are reasonable but please think before ordering. The portions are huge. The place was recommended by the locals who also recommended the nachos (seems like the nachos are the all time favorites of the locals too!!!) We had a great satiating meal. Thanks Nourish!!! Arpita & Joe http://www.tripadvisor.com - First of all, be aware that this restaurant is VERY difficult to find, it is tucked away on the second floor (upper level) of Sundance Mall with no signage outside. The interior is rather spartan (although the ceiling tile paining is very interesting and unique), it is the food that makes this an excellent choice. We were a party of three and none of us are vegetarian, yet there was something for each of us. We ordered the nachos (at $20, I was thinking they better be big and outstanding--they were), falafel, salad and dessert, then ended up sharing. The nachos come with 29+ ingredients on top. I was initially turned off by the idea of strawberry slices on my nachos, but the entire dish was excellent. We also shared the salad, huge for 1, large for 2, just right for 3. Dressing was flavorful, not too overpowering. The falafel was large and cut into six portions, which worked well for us. Dessert was a petit four special that we enjoyed, although one of the four servings (mousse) was not as good as the other three. Note that they use very little soy (only thing we had of soy origin was the dollop of ice soy on the two pie slices), so this is not your typical soy-everything veggie restaurant. My wife had the sangria, which is homemade and comes in either red or white (she had white and said it was excellent). Perhaps the only vegetarian restaurant that we have tried that would compare with Nourish would be Pure Lotus in Beijing (also a must try). http://www.rockies.com/banff-hitch-hiker - I would like to call this my discovery but despite its very hidden location, Nourish Bistro has already been recognised as the best restaurant in Banff by many including TripAdvisor. It was time as a Banff Insider to finally go and find out for myself and who better to go with than my visiting vegetarian girlfriend. There are some great restaurants in the Rockies and Banff but they tend to follow a certain path. Nourish is a vegetarian, healthy, fairly priced and very unique option for dining in Banff. Nourish Vegeterian Restaurant is hands down the best and most unique eatery in Banff. The atmosphere is extremely relaxed which immediately makes the diner comfortable. The waiter was sitting down and chatting with a customer at the table next to ours and was extremely friendly and helpful to us. Though I am a well-practiced carnivore, the menu options were salivating so you can imagine how the vegetarian girlfriend felt. There aren’t many veggie restaurants in the world. After years of only having one or two options on a menu, this was like ten Christmas’ in one! Eventually…and I mean eventually the choice was made. Yam to start, shepherds pie and stuffed pepper for main course. The food in Nourish is the kind where every bite is blissful and there is genuine fear and sadness when your plate begins to look empty. The meals were complimented by our drinks. Though I stuck with good old fashioned and delicious lemonade, my eating partner had a juice with what seemed like ten thousand ingredients that shouldn’t have worked but did perfectly. All in all, the meal cost just a little over $50 which when compared to many burger joints in town is superb. If you are coming to Banff, don’t let your visit pass without a meal in Nourish. It is tucked away upstairs in the Sundance Mall and I promise you this will be the best meal you have in Banff.
