The Town of Banff welcomes residents and visitors of all ages to Banff’s community New Year’s Eve celebration in Central Park, 6 p.m. – 12 a.m. Bid farewell to 2023 and get ready for 2024 with free programming for all ages! The family-friendly event offers live music, a mini train for toddlers, opportunities to race kicksleds, try broomball, enjoy hot chocolate, maple syrup taffy on snow, and marshmallows roasted over open fires (free while supplies last), and grab photos with the roving Snow Fairy, or in front of the traditional Blackfoot tipi or the Banff Sitting Bear. All for free! So, bundle up and let M.C. Rob Murray of Mountain FM take you through a wonderful night full of exciting performances, featuring live music from local and regional artists, such as local favorites Charlie B & Swanee and Northern Quarter, as well as the house band for the Calgary Flames, The Frontiers, and headliners The Steadies, a high-energy, four-piece Canadian power band that are sure to get you moving! Enjoy captivating fire performances and mesmerizing roving characters from Beau Valley Circus, and meet with Blackfoot Medicine Speaks in their traditional tipi and catch their incredible Indigenous dancing. Please note: Banff Avenue will not be closing this year. The event will be cancelled if weather conditions make it unsafe for performers, participants and spectators. Midnight Pyrotechnics Banff Central Park, 12 a.m. Count down the last minutes of 2023 and celebrate the arrival of 2024 with low altitude, low noise pyrotechnics. For your security, the Nancy Pauw Pedestrian Bridge at Central Park will be closed from 11:50 p.m. – 12:20 a.m. for the Pyrotechnic display. Please note: High winds or severe weather may result in the cancellation of pyrotechnics. Check the Town of Banff X's posts for any changes to event programming. These are family-friendly events so please leave alcohol and cannabis at home. Since 2018, the Town of Banff has used pyrotechnics display rather than traditional fireworks to decrease the noise impact on wildlife, as a responsible measure in a national park. Even though the use of pyrotechnics reduced noise because there is no secondary explosion and the low altitude reduced the distance of sound travel, the shows still produced noise, bright flashes, smoke at crowd level and litter that had to be carefully recovered.
